Consequently, on April 29th 2010 the Bürgerschaft (Wismar's legislative assembly) adopted a draft statute establishing a fiduciary foundation, the Stadtkirchenstiftung zu Wismar (Town Church Foundation Wismar), and the inclusion of properties assigned to the former Geistlichen Hebungen in the foundation's assets.
The purpose of the foundation is to preserve and maintain Wismar's historic town churches for the promotion of culture as well as the preservation of sites of historical interest in general and the protestant (Lutheran) religion. In addition, a board of eleven foundation trustees was established, to be ratified by the Bürgerschaft every 5 years.
With changes in the structuring of the Hanseatic Town of Wismar's budget, the financial need for the creation of a special investment fund also became necessary as a consequence of the need for separate proof of assets for non-legally responsible foundations.
One of the most important aims of the Town Church Foundation is now a consolidation of the foundation's basic assets and to secure from its yields the maintenance of buildings in its charge in the medium term. As with the protection and reconstruction of these town-defining church buildings, the need for a high degree of commitment from donors remains here too, in order to prevent these cultural and historical monuments ever falling into ruin again.
A statement of assets and the financial accounts are published annually alongside the municipal budget.
Donations of any size would be gratefully received and can be made to the following account:

For larger donations where the name and address of the donor is supplied alongside the bank transfer, a donation receipt will automatically be issued.
