Town tours - On the trail of a town history of international standing

Wismar’s history, a picturesque town scape, architecture and gothic churches stimulate the curiosity to find out what lies concealed behind it all.
A guided tour through Wismar provides an impressive overview and informative picture of what makes the town so unique and leaves visitors in no doubt as to why Wismar’s old town centre has been on the UESCO world heritage list since 2002.

Night Watchman’s Tour – A guided tour at sundown through Wismar’s old town.

A guided tour with a difference! Armed with Halberd and lamp the guide, dressed as a medieval night watchman, leads the visitors on a twilight tour through the hanseatic town. An eerily beautiful way of getting to know the world heritage town because not only does the guide know a lot about the living history of Wismar but also has a few gruesome tales to tell!

Störtebeker’s Wismar – On the trail of the legendary privateer.

An entry in the Town Record Book of 1381 makes Wismar the only town with the right to claim that a Klaus Störtebeker lived within its walls. So our notorious pirate guides his guests through the landmarks of the hanseatic town recounting tales of the freebooters and of peppercorn sacks and the boom of the Hanse. If that isn’t enough there is a plentiful supply of other historical facts and trivia making this an eventful tour of discovery of the town guided by its most famous resident!

SOKO-Tour - On the trail of a very popular Police TV series based in Wismar

SOKO-Wismar is a long-running fictional weekly TV series about a police criminal investigation department in Wismar.
The events that regularly excite the 4 million television viewers can be experienced by visitors on and around the streets of the town through the SOKO-Wismar guided tour. One of the stars of the series is Swedish actress Li Hagman who plays the part of Finnish exchange policewoman Leena Virtanen. A sense of authenticity is created by the tour guide as she wears an actual uniform from the TV programme.
During the tour the visitors learn exactly where the body was floating in the canal and where the police station is situated, along with stories from the set and what else is going on in “Tinseltown” Wismar!

Guided tours of Wismar in low-floor Panorama Buses

There is no better way to get to know Wismar than on one of our small low-floor panorama buses, winding their way through the narrow streets as the driver explains all the different sights and some of the history of the town. Headsets playing English or Swedish translations are available for passengers if required.

Brauhaus- Brewery on Lohberg

Mumme – Traditional brewing has a history in Wismar.
The beer of Wismar was a valuable export success during the Hanse period, with people throughout Europe drinking Wismar Mumme. The beer along with herring brought the venerable old Hanseatic town not only honour but also wealth. At times the town had, believe it or not, 182 recognised brewers in Wismar. The “Brauhaus am Lohberg” is the only one remaining and ensures the brewing tradition in Wismar continues into the present day. During the tour of the brewery the master brewer explains all the facts and things worth seeing related to the brewing of beer. Not to be missed is the tasting of Mumme, Rote Eric and the Wismar Pilsener traditionally accompanied by excellent bread and dripping!!

The most northerly champagne producer in Germany is the Hanse Sektkellerei in Wismar

To enjoy a Sekt speciality from Wismar is a sparkling experience, but how exactly is Sekt produced?
By taking a guided tour through the Sektkellerei the visitor can learn everything about the history of the vaults and Sekt production using the “Champagne Procedure” in the Hanse Sektkellerei Wismar.
Afterwards the visitors can take part in a tasting of the various Sekt specialities which are produced there. Along with the Sekt various other exclusive gift items are available for purchase.
